The Material Tracker

An overview of the Instant Reno Material Tracker

Sophia Chen

Log every material, finish, and fixture you order—plus delivery dates, invoices, and quantities. Never lose track of what you've bought or where it's coming from.

Once you've decided on materials and ordered them, chaos can ensue. Materials arrive at different times, you forget what colour batch you ordered, invoices get lost, quantities get mixed up. The Material Tracker keeps everything organized and prevents costly delays and confusion on site.

Keep everything organised

  • Log product details: Product name, code, supplier, quantity ordered, and unit cost. When you order a box of tiles, you log which exact tile (brand, style, colour, gloss level), how many boxes, and the price per box.

  • Track delivery dates: Know when materials will arrive on site. Your tiles might arrive Tuesday, your paint Friday, your fixtures next week. The tracker shows you the timeline so you can plan site access and material storage.

  • Attach invoices and receipts: Upload photos or PDFs of invoices and receipts. This protects you for warranty claims, insurance purposes, and tax deductions. If a tile breaks, you can quickly find which supplier to contact.

  • Note colour batches and finish specifications: Different production runs of paint or tile can vary slightly in colour. You log the batch number so if you need to reorder or touch up later, you get an exact match.

  • Access your full inventory list from your phone: On site, you can pull up your material tracker on your phone and check: "Did we order two boxes of grout or three?" or "What's the exact paint colour code I chose?" No more guessing or making incorrect decisions because you can't remember.

Prevent common problems

Problem 1: Ordering duplicates or wrong quantities If you log everything in the Material Tracker, you'll see that you already ordered 50 tiles before you accidentally order 50 more. Similarly, your tracker shows you ordered 10 litres of paint, so you won't over-order.

Problem 2: Colour mismatches You chose a soft grey paint six weeks ago. You forgot the exact shade. If you logged it in the Material Tracker with a photo and the product code, you can easily reorder the same one or match it if you need to touch up after the reno.

Problem 3: Missing invoices An item stops working during warranty. You can't find the receipt or invoice. If you'd uploaded it to the Material Tracker, you have proof of purchase and can claim warranty.

Problem 4: Delivery chaos Materials arrive but you don't know they're coming. Your material tracker shows that three boxes of flooring are being delivered Thursday morning, so you can arrange site access and ensure someone's there to receive them.

Problem 5: Contractor confusion Your electrician arrives and asks: "What fixtures are you using?" Instead of hunting through emails, you open your Material Tracker, show him the exact tap, toilet, and exhaust fan you ordered, and he can prepare accordingly.

Real scenario

You're three days into your bathroom renovation. Your tiles were supposed to arrive today but haven't. You check your Material Tracker:

  • Supplier: Tile Palace

  • Product: White subway tiles (300x600mm, matte finish)

  • Order date: 14 April, Batch #TZ4409

  • Expected delivery: 24 April

  • Quantity: 40 boxes

  • Invoice: Attached

You see the expected delivery date was today. You call Tile Palace and reference the invoice. They confirm the delivery is running one day late—Thursday instead. You update the tracker so your tiler knows to reschedule for Thursday instead of wasting a trip today.

Integration with your timeline

Your Material Tracker connects to your Renovation Manager timeline. If a critical material is delayed, the system can alert you to potential schedule impacts. For example, if your flooring is delayed and flooring installation is blocking the next phase, you'll see the warning and can adjust the timeline or find an alternative supplier.
